Falls Prevention
North Adelaide
Opposed to common belief falls are not a normal part of ageing.
Rather can occur due to a number of different factors. These can include changes in health, muscle weakness, reduced balance, medications, reduced vision and hearing, weight loss, foot pain, poor footwear and external environmental hazards.
The good news is with the right education and exercise program these are all changeable.
Falls are a significant concern especially in the elderly population. Approximately 30 to 40 % of community-dwelling older persons fall in Australia each year, resulting in significant mortality and morbidity, as well as increased fear of falling and restriction in physical activity.
Falls are the leading cause of injury related hospitalisation with statistics showing that in 2016, 21,120 people were admitted to a South Australian public hospital injured after a fall.
Body Fit Physiotherapy’s experienced team can help you understand the factors contributing to your falls and put strategies in place to address these.
What is the Falls Prevention Program?
The Falls Prevention Program is a specialised physiotherapy initiative designed to reduce the risk of falls, particularly among older adults or individuals with balance and mobility issues. This program involves a comprehensive assessment to identify personal risk factors, followed by a tailored plan that may include strength and balance exercises, education on home safety, and strategies to improve confidence and coordination. The goal is to help participants maintain independence, enhance their quality of life, and prevent injury through proactive, guided interventions.
The Falls Prevention Program offers several key benefits:
